My name is Lisa Walbeck and I teach fifth grade at Southwood Elementary. I have been using a blog for a graduate class I am currently taking and our staff has a blog that we use to discuss our professional development further. I am interested to see how I can use a blog either as a communication tool with parents or with students. I have some ideas on what I could use the blogs for: book discussions, sharing their learning, etc. I am concerned with the privacy issues regarding blogs and with students posting inappropriate comments.
Hey, Southwood buddy! I have some of the same questions regarding privacy. I'd love to post pics and video of students making music but haven't because I haven't learned how to set up the whole password thing...and how do you manage all those people's info? I have potentially over 600 people to grant access to.
I like the idea of using a blog to communicate with your colleagues about PD. Having a central location is nice so that everyone has access to the information and you do not have to worry about organizing various e-mails. My step-daughter is in middle school. Here is a blog that her team of teachers use to keep in contact with parents.
As we encourage staff to use these types of technology in the classroom, I think that it is important that we talk about these concerns and know that you have district support. Great discussions for the Ning! I would be willing to organize a chat session with the appropriate people if you think that would be beneficial.
Hi Lisa, My name is Gina Smith and I teach science at Crestwood Middle School (I used to teach 5th grade at Hamilton). I have some of the same questions as you do (privacy). I look forward to learning more from Brooke and everyone from our class.
Hi Lisa. My name is Pam Bird and I teach 2nd grade at Discovery. I look forward to seeing how blogs can enhance my classroom. I currently have a classroom web page. Not sure if 2nd grade would be ready for blogging.?
